Who This Is For

The PN Path Is For You If...

PN isn't for everyone. It's one of the fastest paths to a nursing license — suited to people who want to enter licensed nursing without committing to a multi-year program. If any of these sound like you, keep reading.

You're a CNA, MA, home health aide, or working in healthcare support — and you're ready for licensed status. You already work in healthcare support. The PN credential expands the scope of what you're licensed to do — administering medications, managing care plans, and leading patient care under RN supervision.
You want to move into a licensed nursing role within 12 months — not 2+ years. The PN program is approximately half the length of an ASN, helping students move into licensed nursing roles sooner. (For Florida wage data, see the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: bls.gov.)
You'd like to start with a shorter program before committing to a longer degree. The PN program lets you enter licensed nursing practice in 13 months.
You want to keep working (or supporting a family) while getting licensed. The PN program is structured so that many students can continue working through much of the program.
Timing & Cost

Common Questions Prospective Students Have About Timing.

Here are the timing and cost factors prospective students most often ask us about when comparing nursing pathways.

Wage differences between roles. Licensed nursing roles and unlicensed support roles are compensated differently. You can review current median wages for Florida by occupation directly from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Individual earnings vary. See BLS Florida wage data →

Scope of practice. Florida law requires licensed nursing credentials to administer medications, manage care plans, or supervise patient care at the practical nurse level.

Real Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an LPN and an RN?+
An LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) is a licensed nurse who can give medications, do treatments, monitor patients, and supervise nursing assistants — under the direction of an RN or physician. An RN (Registered Nurse) has a broader scope: care planning, complex assessments, IV medications, and shift leadership. The path: PN program (12 months) → LPN license → optional ASN bridge (24 months) → RN license. Some PIC students follow this path — starting as an LPN, working, then continuing into the ASN.
How much does a Licensed Practical Nurse make in Florida?+
Wages for licensed practical nurses vary by employer, setting, experience, and region. You can review current median wages for Florida directly from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Individual results are not guaranteed, and PIC does not guarantee employment or any specific level of earnings. See current BLS Florida wage data →
What does it actually cost — and what aid will I qualify for?+
Many students qualify for federal financial aid, including Pell Grants and federal Direct Loans for those who are eligible; Pell amounts are set annually by the U.S. Department of Education and are not guaranteed. Tuition and fees are detailed in the college catalog and your enrollment agreement, and your exact net price depends on your individual FAFSA results — which our team will walk you through free. Ask admissions for a net-price estimate →
Can I bridge to an RN later?+
Yes. PIC offers an articulated LPN-to-ASN pathway with transfer credit, subject to ASN program admission requirements, transfer-credit evaluation, and seat availability. Some Florida employers offer tuition assistance benefits to working LPNs; eligibility and amounts vary by employer and are not provided by PIC.
Will my CNA or healthcare experience transfer in?+
Possibly. Active CNAs, Medical Assistants, paramedics, EMTs, and home health aides may be eligible to receive credit for prior healthcare coursework or experience. The Registrar reviews each case individually. The fastest way to find out is the eligibility review below.
Can I work while in the PN program?+
Many students do. Many PN students keep their CNA or healthcare-support job through much of the program. Clinical rotation weeks require more flexibility, but the 12-month format is built to be compatible with part-time work. We help you map out a realistic schedule on your eligibility call.
When does the next PN cohort start?+
The next PN cohort begins July 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the financial aid + transcript review process takes about 3–6 weeks. The first step is the eligibility review below — 60 seconds, no commitment.
Why choose PIC's PN program?+
PIC is ABHES-accredited, Florida Board of Nursing approved, VA-approved, and Title IV eligible. Qualified applicants can start the next cohort, with direct admissions support throughout. Nursing education is our focus.
